by: Dawn Kitchell October 30, 2012

Missouri History Through the Art of Our State Capitol is a new series available to Missouri newspapers that teaches Missouri history with the art in our State Capitol. The series includes an introduction and features on Native Americans, Steamboats, Civil War, Railroads, Mining and Capitols.

The series was written by Bob Priddy, a veteran Missouri Capitol reporter. Bob is widely recognized for his knowledge of Missouri history.

The goal of the series is to showcase art in the Missouri State Capitol. The Capitol Commission had $1 million in 1917 to decorate the newly constructed building and commissioned some of the country’s most acclaimed artists to tell the story of Missouri in paint, clay, glass and tapestry.

The introductory feature in the series offers three classroom activities and there are Common Core Standards correlations with each feature.

To publish all seven features before Christmas vacations; newspapers will need to begin this series early in November. Download this new series at www.mo-nie.com using download code: moart12.
